Geographic policy
This policy applies to the token pages of this site. It does not apply to the software, which is free, runs locally, and is available to anyone.
In this document "I", "me" and "the maker" mean the same single individual who builds and publishes Cognis Protocol. There is no company behind it.
Status today
The IP-based check described below is not in operation. Until it is running and logging, the token pages are not gated and I do not show the banner in the next section anywhere on this site. This page states the policy; when the check starts, this section and the date at the top change with it.
The banner
I will show this before the token pages can be read, on every visit, with a single "I understand and continue" control, once the check below is running:
This page is not directed at persons in the United States, the European Union, or the European Economic Area.
I do not offer or sell any crypto-asset to the public. I have not prepared or notified any crypto-asset white paper to any competent authority, and no competent authority has reviewed or approved this page.
Restricted jurisdictions. I do not direct this page at, and do not make the token available to, any person located in or resident in a jurisdiction subject to comprehensive sanctions administered by OFAC — currently Cuba, Iran, North Korea (DPRK), Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine — or to any person listed under sanctions administered by OFAC, the EU, or the UK, or to any person for whom acquiring or holding a crypto-asset is unlawful under the law that applies to them.
By continuing you confirm that you are not such a person.
What is blocked, and what is not
- Blocked by IP check — the token pages only.
- Never blocked — the software, its source repositories, documentation, the support page, and everything about the product.
The software is free and local. Nothing in this policy restricts who may download it, read its source, or run it.
How the check works
I check requests to the token pages against an IP-based location list before serving the page. A blocked request is refused and recorded — date, coarse location, and the outcome. There is no account and no identity check, and I build no personal profile from this; see the privacy notice.
An IP check is imperfect and easy to defeat. I do not claim otherwise, do not verify anyone's identity or residence, and do not attempt to. I also cannot block anything that happens directly on a public blockchain: transactions between third parties on public smart contracts are outside anyone's control, including mine, and I make no claim to filter them.
Do not use a VPN or any other means to defeat this check. Doing so does not make anything lawful for you.
United States
This page is not directed at persons in the United States. CGOX has not been registered under any securities law, and I do not offer or sell it. Nothing on this site is an offer, a solicitation, or a recommendation to acquire anything.
European Union and European Economic Area
This page is not directed at persons in the European Union or the European Economic Area. I make no offer to the public of a crypto-asset. I have not prepared, published, or notified any crypto-asset white paper to any competent authority, and no competent authority has reviewed or approved this page or anything else I publish.
I do not market CGOX in the Union, do not seek admission to trading on any trading platform, and do not answer questions about how to acquire the token.
Sanctions
I screen addresses that send funds to my treasury against public sanctions lists before I use those funds. I cannot screen transactions that happen directly on public smart contracts, and do not claim to. I do not use funds from a sender I cannot identify.
Your own law
Rules differ by country and change often. It is your responsibility to know whether acquiring or holding a crypto-asset is lawful for you. If it is not, this page is not for you.
